What were your first experiences with hip hop, that made you want to become an mc?
Back in the days, the way cats used to put words together... Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick and all them cats, the way they used to paint pictures with their words
and the way people used to react to it, the way they were just dancing and into. That vibe made me want to just do it... put it down one time.
So you like to make people feel you, react to your words or whatever?
Yeah, it's like we ghetto painters out here, Picassos and all that, letting you know that we are the real broadcasters for the hood. That's how music
was for me it was like they was just bringing the hood and showing you that it was live and people is out here living and we breathing. That's what made me want
to get into hip hop because it was so sad where we was at all the time and that was like the only fun thing to do.
So it's a fun thing for you.. your in it for the fun?
------>
Definitely for fun. I didn't know hip hop was gonna be this big, now it's a billion dollar industry, so if I'm gonna get paid for doing what I love, then hey...
I'm having fun do it.
Talking about money, if somebody slipped a half a million dollars into your lap, would you still be mcing?
Yeah, I would still be mcing, but I'm gonna launder mine. I ain't tryin to make money from just rapping regardless if I have a half a million or not. Even if I was to start out with it, once I get any
money I'm investing it, keep the money like that. Buildings, bonds, stocks, ....and other things I can't tell people about.
Well tell the people who they are speaking to.
Yo, this is sharp aka Shig Phlare. My name reflects my style which is natural, very photographic, and straight to the point. Coming right at you. That's why I came with a name that is on the
cutting edge.. Shig Phlare.
Give me a little history on your career... I heard you were you signed to Tommy Boy at one time?
I had a single deal with Tommy Boy in 1997. At the time they came out with "Ladies Night" that song with Lil Kim, and Angie and them. Anyway
they said they ain't have no money because they put all their money into the soundtrack. Same time that I had got signed, they went and promoted the single but they didn't promote it right.
So basically they gave back all my publishing rights and all that, so I'm just doin it independent now because I see that they could sign you and not do nothing. Just imagine how many cats is signed right now, they
ain't being heard, they can't spark no fuse because they waiting on the label. So I just took it back to the hood and with technology now you could do that, be more independent and free, on some Master P shit.
What's the name of your label?
WGC, World Global Control. That's the official name and it comes with many, many meanings underneath. On some illuminati type shit, but on a basic level it means that we are gonna take over without you even knowing that
we came in the door. When the lights come on you gonna see us sitting in your cd rack. That's for the enlightened cats, them kids who sleep are gonna start hearing us and be 3 years behind wondering where we came from, because we spitting
out joints on some assembly line shit.
