Diddy Gets Name Blocked By "The Real Diddy" - 3:38 p.m.
In the who the hell is that category.. Richard Dearlove has successfully prevented Puff Daddy from using the name Diddy in the UK. Dearlove has been using the name Diddy as his namesake for years, recording a few hit songs in the overseas market. When Puff changed his name from P. Diddy and shortened it to Diddy.. Dearlove said that people began to his music for Puffy's. Puff settled out of court for an undisclosed amount and has started to rebrand his music in the UK. Is he going to go government.. Sean Combs? Dearlove's lawyer, Chris Woods said, "This settlement represents a very satisfying achievement for Richard. He has only ever been interested in protecting the rights and reputation he has spent over a decade building up and his determination has been vindicated by this settlement. The music industry depends on the ability of individuals to build on a core following and to create and sustain their reputations throughout their career without the threat of being swamped by enormous commercial entities and I am delighted my client has been able to see off such a threat." I don't know how big of a star this guy is, or how his music sounds, but it can understandably be disturbing having people thinking you rap like Diddy. At the same time having someone else run around with the name that most everyone associates with the onetime Mohawk wearing, marathon running, Sean John Combs is just strange. Wait a minute. let's see. Yeah, here's his site. Diddyland.com Here's a screen grab of his music player.
Imagine seeing any of those songs on the net. You'd think they were Puff's creations, but I guess that's the point. This dude puts in the work and someone else is getting the recognition, although a look and listen will tell you otherwise - he makes house/club music. No reason that Puff shouldn't have settled, instead of money I would have offered to do a UK released "Diddy meets The Real Diddy" club mix with a video, for the comedy of it. That way, the confusion is over and they can both say.. "I'm not him." Only thing to figure out - court findings be damned - which one them is gonna play The Real Diddy. comments |
