That's not some Googled up picture of Wesley Snipes in an easier, happier moment of a free working man. It was snapped yesterday at the 66th Venice International Film Festival in Venice, Italy. Wesley Snipes was on hand for a screening and promotional duties related to his starring role in the upcoming movie, Brooklyn's Finest. A cops and crooks story directed by Antonie Fuqua - think, Denzel in Training Day or cycle back to August, I wrote something on it then. Ethan Hawke reprises a cop role, along with Richard Gere. Don Cheadle and Wesley Snipes are.. well, you can guess. The movie is set for a limited release in the US on November 27. In an interview in King Magazine, Spike Lee says he's selected Wesley Snipes to play the Godfather of Soul in his upcoming James Brown biopic. JB was working with Spike on the project before he passed in 2006. Since then it's been under the warmer at Paramount Pictures, but Wesley's got that bid to complete, so Spike has plenty of time to get the script and business with the suits right. Once he's out this will be Wesley's first chance to revive his career. Spike Lee believes Wesley Snipes can pull it off.. "He's a phenomenal actor, and I truly feel that he'll regain that power he once had. If my James Brown picture ever gets made, he'll be playing James - and he'd kill in that, without a doubt. Wesley Snipes is free to roam [the globe] as he appeals his tax evasion conviction. In the meantime he owes the government $200k to cover their legal costs. What better way to get the money up then to hit a movie set? Wesley Snipes was cast as a drug dealer in Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest. He joins Don Cheadle, Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke, who play cops in the movie that's short-described as Crash meets Training Day. The movie is being shot on location in Brooklyn, NY. more..

A judge in Ocala, Florida, sentenced Wesley Snipes to three years in jail today. The maximum sentence for tax evasion. Despite the best efforts of his family members and Hollywood friends, Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington, who vouched for Snipe's good character, and an after-the-fact, written admission by Wesley Snipes.. "I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance.".. the judge thought the harsh sentence was necessary to put a stop to people the IRS are calling tax defiers. Tax defiers believe the government has no right to take a chunk out of US citizens earnings. They either file returns stating zero income or don't file at all. In addition some people file for refunds of taxes they've paid in years past. more..
