Ledisi is beginning to get the exposure she deserves:; July 4th weekend she performed at the Essence Music Festival and is featured in the latest issue of the magazine. Aside from talking about getting accustomed to the whole red carpet thing and her new found love of four-inch heels, Ledisi spoke about auditioning for the role of Effie in Dreamgirls.

I’ve been waving the flag for Ledisi for a good minute. Last week she had a short blurb in the NY Daily News “Ledisi’s a Lost Treasure”, where we get this quote.

“Talent will prevail, but it helps that you look a little bit cute.”

You’ve heard all the familiar names nominated in this year’s Grammy awards. I was scanning some of the others in the new artist category and did a triple take.

Oakland, California is home to a singer named Ledisi.

On August 28th she’s set to release her third album “Lost and Found.” Yup, three albums deep and not a peek of the Billboard charts; but it’s not for a lack of talent. Navigating the music industry isn’t for the faint of heart. Questioning the sense of her journey a third Ledisi album almost didn’t get made.
