A Very Puffy Christmas: The Twins Are Here

Puffy, as us 30-20 folks call him, is the father of two baby girls. His longtime on again/off again girlfriend Kim Porter gave birth to twins this morning at Mount Sinai hospital. All is well, the dynamic duo weighed in at 5 lbs and 5.4 lbs.

No word on what They are named after their grandmothers: D’Lila Star, after Kim’s grandmother and Jessie James, after Combs’ grandmother. Puff wrote this on his Myspace page this morning..  “Wanted to tell you first, I’m at the hospital right now and Christmas came early this morning when Kim gave birth to two healthy beautiful twin girls!!! Both, Kim and the twins are doing great, thank you for all your support this year! I Love Y’all!”

Puff is also on the cover of this month’s Scratch magazine with this headline is “If you’re not Dr. Dre on the boards, you’re not f*ckin with me!”

Then they suspiciously place on his shoulder.. “Ghost Producers: Who’s Faking the Funk?”

Now that would be completely f*cked up if the story didn’t address the issue. Yeah, Puff talks about what he does (knob twist/perfect/suggest) and doesn’t do (dig for beats/create them from the raw elements) in the studio.

As he tells it.. “It’s no disrespect to other producers. It’s about being well-rounded as a producer and not just some beatmaker. It’s knowing how to produce, knowing how to orchestrate.. I don’t program beats. I don’t play an instrument. I know how to produce a whole song. To call yourself a producer, when you get that first half of that money you’ve got to stay on budget and deliver that song completed with overdubs, dynamics, and the frequency of the mix that makes your shit special. That, is a lost art form.”

Producers who have worked with him backed up his statements. One of his former engineers said, "You can turn a high hat up half a DB and he'll be like, 'What's that?'

That's right, the nit picky details he talks about on Making the Band (and soon

MKB4) is only an ounce of what you’d hear during a 6 hour studio session.

Danity Kane has a Christmas song out for the season, it’s nice enough
but I can’t help but wonder what small knob adjustment he made to make it a surprisingly listenable song.

Give it your ear.. and the man a little congrats for the twins.
