Barack Obama >> “Hillary Clinton Is Out There Like She’s In A Duck Blind Every Sunday”

The past week or so, I’ve stayed away from any political related posts, because, the commentary surrounding the stories, on the news and in blog comments around the web, was numbing. Just a bunch of people bickering back and forth, neither one listening to the other.

I needed a break.

Sunday morning, I tuned in to catch up with what’s been going on in the race and there is all this talk about Barack Obama’s offensive ‘bitter’ comment. On Friday, the Huffington Post posted this story “Obama: No Surprise That Hard-Pressed Pennsylvanians Turn Bitter” with a quote from a recent campaign speech.

”.. Our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there’s not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

That last sentence was enough to have Hillary Clinton and John McCain running for a mic, both saying Barack Obama is out of touch and an elitist. How dare he say people that own guns (hunters) and go to church are angry and frustrated.. or bitter.

Somehow that characterization makes him unfit to be the President.

Hillary Clinton talked about her grandfather who took her on weekend trips to go duck hunting. He wasn’t bitter. Over the weekend, people on the Clinton team walked around proudly with “I’m Not Bitter” stickers on their chests.

This is the stupidest reason not to vote for someone I’ve heard yet.

Even if Barack Obama was wrong in making a sweeping generalization of gun owners and bible thumpers, the overall point he was making was people are not happy with government as it stands today and what it did yesterday. (You know what’s next).. They want change.

With Hillary Clinton still talking about this today, Barack Obama answered her attacks in another campaign stop over the weekend.

Called her Annie Oakley..  Haha! << that’s at 4:18

HC is tripping! her camp is digging for anything possible to slip Obama up! Obama’s camp should now come back w/a visual campaign w/Steel Workers who lost their jobs, stating that they’re now in their mid 40’s-50’s and don’t want to go to college now to start a new career… they’ve had a great career until jobs were sent over seas and state YES! I am bitter! His camp needs to retaliate more. JMO

To the post above— I do believe you have a future in political advertising.

Was Obama telling it on the mountain or what?!

I love it! He is so on point. We should be bitter!!!! The economy is in shambles and the Bush administration thinks printing more money and pouring money into the economy is supposed to help. Folks need to stop being in denial. This is a recession, and people are in a state of depression…unless of course you make six figures.

You are on point everything you said is correct and people aren’t smart enough to realize that the US is in deep shit. Gas prices are at a record that I have never seen before. WE NEED CHANGE. I agree with the notion that it is unless you make 6 figures we are all going down.

Finally A logical post, we should be bitter. Every time it costs more money to fill up your car than it does to feed your family you should be bitter.  We currently live in a country where the president was a previous stock holder in oil companies and the vice president was CEO of a major defense contracting company. And we wonder why we’re at war, and gas prices are through the roof. Bitter? thats not the word! I’m angry!  If Hillary wants to exploit his comments and try and make it into something bigger than what it is then shame on her! I for one am tired of politics, lets get a politician who’s going to actually cut through that and make a change.

6 you people are so blind Wed, Apr 16, 2008 - 9:44 pm

You are so easily sold on words….can’t you think back to the times of the Clinton Administration and remember that our economy was in the best shape at that time?  Nobody can predict for certain that Barack can accomplish everything that he says he wants to.  Of course his intentions are good, but please, where is his experience??  YOU ARE ALL GOING ON FAITH ALONE….MAYBE BARACK IS JESUS REBORN.  GIVE ME A BREAK.

Bill Clinton and Al Gore were in office back then, Not Hillary.  Since when have you filled out a job application and been able to put down someone elses job experience? Yes she was there, but what was her involvement? The truth of the matter is that anytime we pick a president we step out on faith. Sometimes it works well for us, and others( Bush) don’t. At this point I’m willing to step out on faith because thats all we have at this point. Experience doesn’t always equal better.
