Chris Brown perfroms in his Thriller jacket at 2006 World Music Awards

Chris Brown Cut from BET Awards by the Ultimate Hustlers

Like Usher, Chris Brown was also a no show at the BET Awards. Oh, he was ready to put on a fantastic Michael Jackson tribute, but at the last minute, Chris was axed from the show. Rumors have it that both Al Sharpton and Jay-Z weren’t happy with Chris Brown being part of the show. It’s said that Jay-Z told BET execs that he and Beyonce would not perform if Chris Brown was on the stage. And Al Sharpton made such a ruckus to BET executives that they gave in, telling Chris to.. beat it.

Chris Brown is “furious” telling friends that he was confirmed for the awards and was told something else just before show time. However BET and Chris Brown’s publicists are saying he was never confirmed. No surprise Chris Brown’s people would take BET’s side. If he’s going to make any kind of comeback in the future he will need BET’s help. Let me add, women seem incredibly upset that Jay-Z would do this. I suspect they are the same women who defended Chris Brown, even as Rihanna’s lumped up mug stared them in the face.

Did you really think Chris Brown was going to be freely bouncing around stages and mingling with folks in the industry like nothing ever happened? This is the first time, with many more to come.

Very funny that they’ll give him an issue. But what about R Kelly when he pissed on a little girl. Hell, people were still going to him to get music produced. Eminem straight up insulted black women and got away with it. Not to mention Jay Z has had a history of disrespecting women, in the song “Girls, Girls, Girls”. But now that he’s matured, married, and a multi-millionare I guess it doesn’t matter what his past is like.

2 SO UpSet!!! Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 2:38 pm

RESPECT to J-Z——but he really was such a PUNK ASS for doing this to CB, i really dont see WAT the issue btwn him & RE have anything to do w the TRIBUTE to MJ. i know he did wrong but like said b4- CHRIS B was the only one that was going to crush down the show that nite for MJ…. i think and i feel that CB should perform on the MTV tribute to MJ.

3 christian Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 2:42 pm

I believe that it was immature to even go there. This isn’t about jay-z or beyonce this was about michael jackson. And sad to say both beyonce and jay-z performances sucked.. Sucked real bad and i’m a jay-z fan.. In this instance i was just upset that people can’t look beyond certain things this was for Michael and Chris Brown would have represented him well. I mean Ike used to beat Tina’s azz on a regular, and since rihanna didnt press charges it must not have hurt that bad.lol. It just shows how self -centered and egotislical people can really be.. GET OVER YASELF YA KNOW!!!

4 elmo97 Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 3:03 pm

I think its very unfortunate and Chris Brown would have been the thing to bring some excitement to the show. There were a few good performances but overall the show sucked terribly and some things were very inappropriate.  How are you going to tell the whole world you are going to pay tribute and then you suck at it.  Chris Brown along with Usher and Neyo would have done just fine. I heard Chris was suppose to open up which would have been way better than New Edition but thats ok sad to say I bet MTV will have him on there.  Thats not a good look for JayZ or Beyonce. BET should have told them to kick rocks. Both of them were whack. Who do they think they are?

5 Betty Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 4:04 pm

I am really sick on the way Chris Brown is being treated.  I don’t agree with what happen, but let Chris Brown and the others that were involved in this case settle it, not the public. Not only thing, you won’t have Chris Brown, but yet the others like Lil Wayne, and the rest of the gang that degrade women with the lyrics to their song, and have little girls apart.  What a joke.  Get real people

6 JZSux Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 5:59 pm

Jay-Z really needs to mind his business. He really needs to focus on the day Beyonce has got enough of his money and decides leave him because that day is coming. We all know what Chris Brown did was 100% wrong but the man has a right to live his life and do his job.

7 kimmy Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 6:18 pm

wow, jay-z is an ass! they shoulda let chris perform. he’s the best new michael jackson and he totally looks up to him, still. jay-z needs to mind his own business. chris should of performed. and i’m mad he didnt. chrrris, i love yooou

8 TIffany Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 8:22 pm

The BET Awards was horribly Ghetto and was not a tribute but a true disgrace! First of all it was unorganized, the sound was horrible, and the performances sucked! By no means did it captivate the legacy of Michael. If BET was going to do ANYTHING, they should have went on with the regular program, had a ten minute tribute to MJ, and then in a few weeks scheduled a true night to HONOR Michael Jackson, with real celebrities who loved and had a real compassion for MJ. Jamie Fox was NOT funny nor cute. As I was watching I felt like it was all a joke or some type of Roast of Michael. Not a tribute. And What In the HELL was Beyonce doing, singing, and wearing? I wasted my time watching and waiting for the tribute to my man Michael Jackson. I pray for his family and pray that everyone learns the true meaning of the word tribute! Michael I pray that you are in heaven singing to the Lord and showing the angels how to moon walk! =)

9 backup2fallback Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 8:31 pm

I think this is just sad, because this was a tribute to MJ. This was not about Bey, JayZ, CB, or Rihanna. CB was punished by the courts. Just because U aren’t satisfied with the sentence, it does not mean U are allowed to make your own punishment. JayZ has a history of physical violence and sexual abuse against women. He has no business judging CB. And Al Sharpton supported OJ and R. Kelly, and we all know both of them did it. Ppl are such hypocrites.

10 Mia06 Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 8:55 pm

I know what Chris Brown did was wrong but exiting him from the Awards Show was wrong..He just wanted to give his props to MJ but Jay Z and Al Sharpton just had to be rude..We gotta do better as black people and support one another. Everyone makes mistakes. Don’t use your powers to work against each other..

11 lidz Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 11:49 pm

am so mad at what jay-z did… he and b makes mistakes.. u retarded jay-z if u think u could put him down… micheal painted the way for ur stupid adss to sing.. shut the f**k up n let the boy to his thing..wat happened waz between him and ri ..go get a surgey for those big oh ass lipz u loser

12 MiMi Tue, Jun 30, 2009 - 11:51 pm

Jay Z pulled a BITCH move. Why is it a problem to him? He isnt God! F*CK Jay Z and Beyonce.

13 MsMoni Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 2:42 am

The BET Awards were a mess.  I’m glad Usher and Chris did not perform.  I understand BET had a tight schedule to turn things around, but some shows could have been shortened such has Beyonce’s ill placed performance and Jay-Z’s old man performance about stopping music that the kids are into these days.  Instead of changing the whole show they could have cut a few performances short and saved time at the end to truly honor his life.  Instead we got a half assed attempt.  I don’t think I was ever more embarrassed by my people than I’ve ever been.  If it wasn’t for Ne-yo the awards would have been a complete catastrophe.

I for one believe if they allowed an ex-drug addict and woman abuser(bobby brown), a self proclaimed “dope boy” (Jay-Z), and an old woman abuser (Don Cornelius), then Chris should have been given the platform to perform.  How dare BET pat themselves on the back for that lame attempt at a tribute.

The execs over at BET seem hell bent on destroying the black community.  With mindless shows like Frankie and Neffie, Tiny and Toya its amazing that people even still watch the network.  I for one am turning to TV1 for my viewing pleasure.  Not only is the programming better, its informative and more pleasing.  I’m 23yrs old and have already out grown BET’s antics. They will continue to lose viewers as long as they keep promoting mediocrity. I for one feel like they owe us all an apology.  Their heart was in the right place but there is no excuse for the coonery that went down on sunday.

14 Skosha Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 11:09 am

First i’d like to say to MsMoni, I enjoy reading your comments you make very good points, may not agree with all of them in past conversations, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good points. It’s not that Jay Z shouldn’t have said what he said, especially if he has a good relationship with Rihanna, but it was inappropriate to expect that from BET, while the whole show involved people who have a history of past and present problems….I mean everything always looks better from the outside and that works in the reverse to, everything always looks worse from the outside. And i agree 100% with what MsMoni says about the mindless “entertainment” BET shows on their network. I don’t watch BET at all except for exceptions like BET awards. To bad it had to go down that way…....

My Opinion

15 MsMoni Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 11:59 am

Thank you Skosha. I’m glad that I’m not alone in my feelings about that “Awards” show.  It’s time for us to hold BET responsible for the garbage that they put on TV.  In recent years they’ve gone from thought provoking programs like the Tavis Smiley show to mindless “entertainment” like College Hill. I liked Keyshia Cole’s show, but to exploit her mother who clearly is not working with her full mental capacity is inxcuseable. It’s like Black face 2009 over there. It’s sad when we don’t expect more from our own people. I encourage everyone who is just as outraged as I am to contact BET and let them know how you feel.  I know I will be.

16 Deshon Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 1:24 pm

Bet has to be really ashamed as much as jayz hated on Sunday and beyonce what the hell was she singing about.lil Wayne really did not need to bring those little girls on stage.why couldn’t chris perform bet really wanted jayz to perform his performance was terrible he hated on everybody.old man stop rapping please. What does beyonce see in him besides the money.michael Jackson wouldve hated those performances. BET is going down the drain and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the last awards show don cornelius took all f**kin day to talk and trey songz was terrible

17 lyshae Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 4:10 pm

the BET Awards and BET in general has been going downhill ever since Deborah Lee took over. They were so caught up into dedicating the whole awards show to MJ that they totally forgot about the awards in the end making it into a big MESS! BET’s hearts were in the right place but, instead of rushing to dedicate the show to MJ they should have just gave him his own tribute. it’s sad to say that MTV is going to give MJ a better tribute then we did and we are his people and they will have the right ppl to make it successful such as Chris Brown and Usher..

18 maken Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 6:17 pm

I don’t give a damn what anybody says!!!!1 The BET awards sucked ass. Michael was a one of a kind genuis in the music industry and no one past, present and future will never take his place. That man deserves a hell of a lot better. The only good performances that I like was neyo singing lady in my life, one of my favorite songs by michael.I also like the tribute to the O’Jays. The other performances from New Edition,Keri,Beyonce and etc was a disappointment. I don’t know who the HELL thought it was a good idea to let Don Cornelius speak. I’m not making fun of the man, but damn I can’t stand for people taking to long too make speeches. If I was the Jacksons ain’t no way in hellI would have let that two faced Beyonce pay tribute, a few months ago she was talking smack about them in Elle magazine. Michael was the epitome of perfection as far as music goes. I doubt anybody will ever do him do him justice.

19 Damn! Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 8:23 pm

Yes they did suck ass and along with that they let Joe Camel, oops, I mean Jay-Z dictate to them that CB couldn’t perform. I guarantee you he would have been the best thing that could have happened to that sham of a show. BET should feel like shit but they won’t. They have fallen off the map of respect and went straight to the hoodrat side. Coming out with a show that highlights the lives of 2 baby mama’s and the other show that highlights the lives of a former drug addict, don’t know if she still is, and her ghetto ass daughter is what they are all about now.

20 mjjfan Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 8:45 pm

BET should have waited to do a tribute to michael jackson. You could tell that it was last minute. Jamie fox acted like he was high on something.  I know they wanted to be the first to tribute, but sometimes being first is not always the best.  Chris Brown is a young and talented entertainer, he deserves a second chance.

21 Janette Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 9:15 pm

Jay-z is such a bitch!

22 To mjjfan Wed, Jul 01, 2009 - 10:55 pm

You know what’s incredible? There are many people that have said BET should have waited and we are just people that watch the channel. They have producers and executives and directors that make hundreds of thousands of dollars and none of them could even figure this out. BET is truly going down the tubes.

23 Alyssa R Thu, Jul 02, 2009 - 12:31 am

ok i see how some people are saying he cant go around thinking that nothing ever happend but that is his icon the one that should the world everything that preformers know today!i think it would of been a good thing for Chris Brown to preform at the bet awards to show his respect to the KING!

24 maleny:( Thu, Jul 02, 2009 - 12:52 am

that was really imature of jay-z and beyonce to do…mj was chris browns idol and hes what made him what he is today…..not everybody is perfect what he did was wrong we all know that but they could of set that all behind and let chris brown show his respect to mj…and lil wayne is the one performing a sex song and bringing little girl up too the stage….bet shame on you chris brown would of rockedddd the show…

this is dissapointing to hear that beyonce and jay z are threatning to not be apart of the bet awards bc of chris brown wanting to pay his respect for mj!seriously bey and jay mind ur own business its not about u it was “supposed” to be a tribute to mj!but what i saw was a mess!its sad to say that people cant forgive just for one day and let cb do what he came there to do.CHRIS BROWN u would of been the best performance to be apart of the bet awards!we are waiting for u when u are ready to come back and shine and do what u do best…Perform:)

29 Shelly Thu, Jul 02, 2009 - 9:59 am

First, Beyonce had no business being on that stage because she trashed the Jackson family a few months ago and Janet had beef with her, so her tribute was fake as hell. She only wanted to promote a song from her album. Second, for those of you that dont know, Jay Z BEAT a woman and paid her not to file charges. The clip is on youtube for you to WATCH! And MJ was bringing Chris on his tour with him to open the show, so it was downright disrespectful for those two hypocrites to perform, and not Chris Brown. Their day will come and I hope they flop for being hypocrites and trying to hold Chris down. He screwed up yes, but he is paying for it.

RIP Michael

FIRST OF ALL R.I.P MJ THIS WAS THE WORST B.E.T AWARDS I EVER SEEN. MOSTLY ALL THE PROFORMANCES LOOKED LIKE NO ONE TOOK TIME 2 REHEARSE.I WISH JAY-Z REALIZED HIS TIME IS UP IN THE RAP GAME. JAY-Z SHOULD HAVE LEFT HIS MIC RETIRED.LEAVE HIS LEGS KICKED UP BEHIND THE DESK LIKE THE BOSS U CLAIM HE IS.ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE SO THAT MEAN JAY-Z,BEYONCE AND THE REST OF THEM SHOULD HAVE KEPT THEIR MOUTH CLOSE.C.B AND USHER THE ONLY 2 CAN MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU R WATCHING M.J PERFORMANCE AND ENJOY IT LIKE M.J IS THE ONE WHOS DOIN IT. B.E.T ENTERTAINMENT WISE THEY JUST DONT HAVE THAT ABILITY ANYMORE. WHY THE WORRYING ABOUT THE MISTAKE C.B MADE. THEY NEED 2 WORRY ABOUT LOSING ALL THERE VIEWERS.

31 Moe Thu, Jul 02, 2009 - 7:40 pm

You’d think BET and We as Black People would conduct an appropriate tribute to MJ.  Think again!  This is the exact reason, I left BET for TVOne.  MJ tribute was HORRIBLE, folks talking about themselves instead of focusing on MJ, and negroes like T Pain, who like but so disappointed, walking out there with a “Big Ass Chain” around his neck.  Freakin’ embarrassment this show was and no class.  Dag!  Black people when are we gonna get it right.  BET…good riddance!

Hi this is melissa. Im 14 yrs old & Im a true Chris brown fan. I kno ppl make mistakes bcuz i have myself nd i know wht chris brown did was wrong.. but i feel that chris brown should have performed- he’s the closest there is to MJ and im too young to really feel the pain tht some ppl feel of michael jackson’s death,, but i do kno tht chris brown always looked up to michael..tht was his idol- in good times nd bad. i dnt think michael would approve of the performances made @ the BET awards. i rather watch c.b. anyday!

33 Ultimate Chris Brown Fan aka DaNii twitter.com/DaN Sat, Jul 04, 2009 - 10:28 am

I loved CB since day one… CB loved Michael Jackson like no other performer ever. You can tell by his thriller performance he did for MJ. Just YouTube it, when CB did thriller all the people in the audience couldn’t stop cheering. It’s a shame that what he did to Rihanna is overshadowing everything. In the end I see him changing his ways and becoming someone better. People make mistakes, just as long as he doesn’t turn back to violence he will be just fine.

As for Jay-Z and Beyonce, I have nothing against them but they are no God or Goddess… I don’t understand how they would have any f**king say so for any f**king television corporation. If they did have something to do with this Karma will come back tenfold. Both of their performances weren’t up to my expectations at all. Jay-Z was straight up hating with that song, and Bey was half naked singing a Song that i’m sure nobody was paying attention to. Both of their performances were long… And if you noticed neither one of them incorporated anything dealing with MJ in either of their performances at all. No gloves, no snippet of an MJ song, no pictures, no nothing…

BET, BET, BET… Humph… All I can say is I shook my head the whole night… Granted that they did have only 3 days to revamp the whole show, they didn’t have to revamp the whole show in the first place. Them saying its a tribute to MJ at the last minute put more baggage on them. I agree with the posts above mine, all they had to do was keep the scheduled show and then had a segment for MJ. At a later date they could’ve had a tribute for MJ… It was no excuse for that horrible show… in my mind this show will always be a Ghetto High School musical. There were only a select few people that I enjoyed… Such as Maxwell ((he is tha truth when it comes to SOUL music)), Ne-Yo, Ciara… They really showed love for the King of Pop. I just really hope he’s not rolling in his grave…

RIP MJ… Gone but not forgotten!

CB keep your head up… Doors will open for you… Just keep praying for forgiveness… Apologize and move on, forgive and forget!! <3

38 Needs to Be Said Thu, Jul 16, 2009 - 10:05 am

That BET “tribute” to Michael Jackson was really sad and pathetic. I was thoroughly disappointed. I really like Jamie Foxx but I was not pleased at all with his performance. Everything about the 2009 BET Awards seemed so last minute and thrown together. These people are supposed to be professionals – this was the best they could do? I know it was last minute, but it was their choice to remake the show into a tribute to MJ – some tribute.
As far as the rumor (or truth) about Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Al Sharpton boycotting a Chris Brown performance well – if a performer was going to be banned – the least they could have done was provided decent performances themselves.  Jay-Z’s performance seemed to disrespect all other performers while exalting Jay-Z himself – but didn’t make much sense. I have never thought Jay-Z was a good rapper, so I may be biased. I also lost any hope of having any respect for Jay-Z after watching various Internet videos of him physically abusing women. In one video Jay-Z appeared to be slamming a woman in her face just because she was an over exuberant fan. Hypocrisy is funny sometimes – this is not one of those funny times.
Speaking of hypocrisy, what on earth was Beyonce doing singing a song which included bars from Ave Maria while dressed in a beaded bathing suit? Adding wings and a see-though skirt did not do anything to make her look any less skankish or the song sound any more holy. It was such a contradiction that I didn’t know what to make of it. You have to do more than sing the song; you also have to walk-the-walk and dress the part. I have always said that Beyonce has too much talent to always be showing her behind, thighs, and breast while gyrating like a common whore trying to generate more income – but I guess if she doesn’t think so what I think really doesn’t matter.
Speaking of thinking better of herself – is it just me or does anyone else think that Jay-Z seems to spend too much time with, talking about, and protecting the honor of Rhianna? I just read where Rhianna and Jay-Z were seen partying all over the place the weekend of Diddy’s white party (they were not there – I’m just referencing it because it was the same weekend or night). Not once was Beyonce’s name mentioned in the articles. Now I understand that Jay-Z is Rhianna’s manager and she supposedly was flirting with Jay-Z’s friend, but I am sure that I am not the only person to have seen that cover/cloak before. But hey – if Beyonce is cool with it – who am I to point out the seemingly obvious (though not as obvious as Rhianna’s pasties)?
http://bossip.com/128507/rihanna-pasties-her-nips-while-partying-with-jay-z-and-the-roc/
http://celeb.wohoo.co.uk/2009/07/rihanna-party-with-jay-z/comment-page-1/
What did either Jay-Z or Beyonce’s performance have to do with Michael Jackson? Nothing. Nothing at all.
Anyway, bottom line is that that “tribute” was supposed to be about Michael Jackson, not Jay-Z or Chris Brown or anyone else. If Chris Brown could have paid homage to Michael Jackson better than some of the crap that was performed, then he should have been allowed to perform. I truly hope BET plans to really pay tribute to Michael Jackson – a real one – a planned and practiced tribute. I also hope that the executives don’t allow performers and political figures to dictate who gets to be a part of any future productions. If someone threatens to pull out – let them. They are the ones giving up needed exposure. If Jay-Z or Beyonce had not performed in the 2009 BET Awards show – I don’t it would have been any worse than it was – heck – it may have even been better. Like many before me have said, that “tribute” was horrible. I want a “do-over.” Get it right this time.

39 Lo Key da Gr8 Thu, Jul 16, 2009 - 6:41 pm

Jay-z is the G.O.A.T., when it comes to music what he says goes, if the greatest of all time says that Chris Breezy cant do his thing on the stage, then guess wht?... he aint gon do his thing on the stage., simple and plain…. Sorry ppl, and the DOA performance by Jay was CRAZY,,,,, best thing that I saw the whole night the awards were super lame

40 Needs to Be Said Thu, Jul 16, 2009 - 7:17 pm

So Lo Key, you agree that the show sucked? Hmmm, I wonder what could have made it better? Or rather who could have made it better….. Probably Chris Brown… Yeah, that would have been the ticket…

As far as Ja-Z being “the greatest of all times” that’s so funny - but not in a ha-ha sort of way - more like in a “wow you really have to idea about the history of music” sort of way.

I sort of agree with TiannAa booO but there is a such thing called rumors so this may or may not be true. If this is true jayz dont own bet but they seemed convinced to let him go. if this isnt true maybe cb was never apart of the show or maybe there was another reason they let him go

Chris Brown would have done MJ proud at the BET Tribute. Instead we got weak-ass performances by Jay Z, Beyonce and Lil Wayne and his gang of thugs. The O’Jays didn’t belong on that show. They were too polished, too professional, too classy. Ne-Yo did a pretty good job but more performers should have been there. I understand that Jay Z and Beyonce don’t like distractors that may take some attention away from them but this wasn’t their show; or was it?

I am also ashamed of Al Sharpton for “not helping Chris Brown out and speaking up for him” at a time like this. He’s young and needs guidance from a mature individual like Al Sharpton. Instead Al played into the playa-hata game of Jay Z and turned his back on a fellow brother whose mistake was getting involved with a spoiled brat who has a tendency to entice a brotha into punching her.

here is no excuse for Chris’s behavior. I’m sorry the brother got caught up in Rihanna’s web. Word on the Hollywood streets is that Rihanna was often seen punching Chris upside his head, eavesdropping on his telephone calls, and throwing jealous tantrums every time he looked or spoke to another female. Do that enough times and it can make anybody snap. Chris’s lesson in all of this is should he get another female who exhibits these same tendencies that Rihanna has exhibited he needs to leave her quick fast and in a hurry.

Rihanna has anger management problems. Too much attention has been put on Chris Brown because men are trained to never hit a woman. I’m training my son to hit any woman who hits him first!

I really think that chris brown should have performed because he is the best after the king of pop R.I.P Mike Jackson. And I really do not think that jay-z should have performed he looked like a f**king fool and I think that he is not one of the best rappers. He is really corny, personally I think that my boo T.I is the best rapper. and for beyonce, keri hilson was right she is fake and she do need to sit down and have some babies. I am not gay but I think that beyonce sister is prettier than her. I also think that award show was f**kin crap.
