Eddie Murphy On Faking Your Way To the Top

Press time for the Dreamgirls cast, yeah, from now til Christmas we’ll be seeing more and more of the stars of the most hyped movie since Snakes on a Plane. It’s gonna be great, the best you’ve ever seen, fantastic! All movies have those types of headlines, but the’word’ is that this is truly a great movie. Label me buying in, I’m going to one of those advance $25 screenings on Saturday. Figure you stash snacks instead of buying at the counter and you’re about where you’d be on a normal night.

Then I can hit you with the advance word, like tell everything that happens and completely ruin it for everyone. Haha.. Watch this.. check this part.. Yup, I hate that guy.

Recently, Eddie Murphy talked about his character James Early on AP Television News, speaking about the insecurity of being an artist/actor. Murphy said, “I could relate to him [James Early] - the whole idea of him faking his way to the top, like that idea. Because I think every artist feels, you know, in the back of your mind, it’s like - you’re kinda like - they’re believing this?”

He added: “You know, you kind of feel like, at any moment, they’re gonna pull the covers off, and be like, `He’s not an artist!’”

That’s not exactly faking it. I think it’s what people describe when they call someone a natural performer. Like Eddie Murphy was a class clown from jump, he took his natural silliness to the stage, someone gets him on screen and one day you look around and can’t believe you’re getting paid and praised for doing what you’d do if you were a UPS driver. You mean I get paid for this, some kind of genius.. I’m just being who I am.

Though some people take years and years of hard work to get that break, others pull a Youtube and get the check up front.

“I’m the closest you can get to having a charmed existence in this town. ... I graduated high school at 17, and got on `Saturday Night Live’ when I’m 18, and I did `48 Hrs.’ when I was 20. So I never had the whole, you know, going through auditions and all that and getting on drugs and losing it all and the tragedy.”

”(I’ve) been rolling since I was 18. I’ve been chilling. So, every now and then you might have a movie that’s wack and don’t make some loot, but that ain’t the end of the world.”

Dreamgirls should be in the far from wack category.. I’ll let you know.. everything. haha.
