Etta James ~ I’m Gonna Whip Beyonce’s .. “At Last”

Beyonce approached Cadillac Records as a turning point in her ‘acting’ career. Finally she would get to be the bad girl.  I don’t think Beyonce was that convincing, but this isn’t a movie review. She was proud of the job she did and Etta James co-signed her. Although Beyonce didn’t live as hard a life as she did, Etta James said, “It’s a privilege and an honor to have somebody like that girl. I don’t think she looks like me, but that’s all right. They can make that up.”  At the Cadillac Records premiere Beyonce and Etta James were pictured together. Beyonce was glowing. Somewhere in the city, this morning, she is scratching her head weave, wondering where it all went wrong.

Last week, Etta James performed at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle. As she introduced “At Last”, she took jabs at Barack Obama: “You know your President, right? You know, the one with the big ears? He ain’t my President.” Then she gave Beyonce a back hand.. “I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ass whupped.. I can’t stand Beyoncé. She had no business, standing up there .. on a big ol’ President’s day .. and gonna be singing the song that I been singing forever.”

Nothing worse than a bitter, jealous person. Especially one that smiles in your face and no sooner than you spin… lemon juice to the back!

I’ll give her this: around the fifth or sixth time Barack and Michelle danced to “At Last”, I wondered why they didn’t just use Etta James for the first dance. Give it the original flavor. After some thought, I think the decision to use Beyonce was because she’s a superstar today. It would have been cool to bring Etta James up, but 75.5% of the audience would have been.. “Who is that?”
