Michael Vick Forced to Wear Black and White Striped Prison Gear
This afternoon Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in jail. Judge Henry Hudson gave him one less than the maximum 24 months he could have received. He’ll be eligible to hit the streets again in May 2009; the date for his return to the football field may never come around.
I’d love to talk about the ins and outs of Vick’s dogfighting, but at this point the discussion is deep in the ground. What I’d like to talk up is the lovely prison gear he was forced to wear in the courtroom.
Earlier this afternoon I was listening to ESPN radio and some guest was talking about how Michael Vick was forced to wear an old-time black and white striped prison jumper, seven sizes too big, just looking ridiculous.
The ‘seven’ sizes too big line, man, I had to laugh. According to this guy, black and white prison gear hasn’t been used since, like, the Charlie Chaplin days. Vick’s co-defendants wore what you might normally see, the orange jumpsuit, but here was Vick clearly being shamed even further. Originally Vick’s lawyers asked the judge if he could wear a normal suit, the request was denied. Not only did he not get to wear something fashionable, they told him he wasn’t wearing orange either, they pointed him to that black and white get-up. His lawyers protested to no avail.
If public embarrassment was the aim, it makes no sense; except for some exceptions, cameras aren’t allowed in court; all the public gets to see is the court artist’s rendering.
And I think the fashion-haha went over most people’s heads. Other than ESPN guy, no one has brought it up. I’m wondering if he was right about them not being worn since way back. But even those crazy sniper dudes were trotted in court wearing tangerine jammies.
You see? Now I’m gonna have to look out for the next striped convict sighting.
It does feel wrong to call a former star quarterback a convict, but now, that’s what he is.

The black and white outfit was clearly an attempt to embarass Michael Vick. If it weren’t, why didn’t the other 2 defendants have to wear the same thing? This judge had it in for Mr. Vick from the start. If a judge has an agenda he shouldn’t be ruling on a certain case. Did race play a factor? Of course it did. Race will always play a factor. Just like CHIEF 00 said the white women and men having sex with animals aren’t being charged with anything. WHERE WAS PETA THEN?!! In my opinion anything over thirty days was clearly over the top. 2 years, that is clearly because he is black. Racism will never end. especially with the law. im a white guy and Im sorry to admit that white people are ridiculous! We try to sugar coat racism to America and then get mad when Black people realize thats what it is! My white friend got caught fighting dogs and just got a warning but michael got 24 months come on thats just stupid! White people lynch blacks and rape and molest kids and they give them a smack on the hand. I get tired of hearing dumb ass white people saying its no racism when they are not on the other end. We get all the white privilege we want and then get mad when blacks recognize it for what it is ....this case was just another way to convict him because hes black ,has money and a career….sometimes I hate even being around dumbass white people….blacks are better to hang out with anyway…
