“Be a Nigger Too” is the first drop from Nas new album Nigger. I was wondering if Def Jam was having second thoughts about releasing such a controversial, racially marked album; especially with Barack Obama front and center. Not for political correctness. For artistic relevance: rhyming about being a nigger seems stupid when a shackled and chained, the man is holding me down, ‘nigger’ can run for president.
Nigger in its alternative flavored spelling is accepted. Hit you with the a on the end and it’s brotherly love. I choose not to use it any form. It never felt right coming from my mouth - couldn’t find the lovely part of the word. That’s a personal choice and I’ll listen to it in the music with no problem.
But again we’re talking.. n-i-g-g-a.
Why is Nas bringing ‘nigger’ up like it’s the 50’s? As if black people are being hosed and lynched in the streets. Outright in-your-face racism to the point that he feels today is the day to bring pride to n-i-g-g-e-r-s worldwide.
In the chorus Nas shouts out his kike niggas, chink niggas.. then flips it, saying niggers get blamed, shot, strangled.. Do you still want to be a nigger?
That’s an interesting twist, but it’s meat lost in a sauce of lyrics that don’t bind that thinking. Like say.. Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” or “Public Enemy #1”
Nas is just rattling off the word for vague reasons.
Racism and ignorance still exists.. but no matter the struggle..
I won’t be a nigger too.
Can Nas Ever Right A Song Without Jacking Other Rappers Lines? His Chorus Was First Done By The Late Great Eazy-E. & I Bet These Younger Rap Fans Are Gonna Be Like Wow Nas Is A Good Lyricist. But At Least Give Propz To Eazy-E Or Something. I Made The First Remix Of This Song. You Can Here It Here. www.myspace.com/GhettoCPT For Free Download
These Lines “I’m A Nigga, He’s A Nigga, She’s A Nigga, We Some Niggaz
Wouldn’t You Like To Be A Nigga Too?” Where First Said By Eazy-E On The N.W.A Album efiL4zaggiN (Niggaz 4 Life) On The Track “Niggaz 4 Life”
I’ll never be a nigger or a nigga. There is no difference to me. And I’ve actually sworn off a couple of DJ’s who repeatedly use it. I know some of you have heard one DJ in particular who uses a child (or a child’s voice) all over every song on the mixtape. I’m done with that DJ. I can’t be the one who condemns the word yet blasts it on my cd/mp3 player all day.
Not only that, I tell all my friends to stop saying it around me; that goes for Black and White. Nigger means ignorant, so if I change that er to an a, now it doesn’t mean ignorant? Hmmm…
The example I give my friends is this: You say “what up my nigga?” (Nigga is supposed to be a term of endearment, so they say.) What I hear is: “What up my ignorant friend?” I can only try to influence those around me because it offends me deeply. If they don’t agree or can’t respect it, they’re not a friend for long. That’s how serious I am.
Maybe this comes with age and/or knowledge of the struggle...I’m just not into the “I’m a gangster-I’ll kill you-I have x amount of keys-I roll a Maybach with 30 inch rims-I bang with whoever"-etc. NO THEY DON’T. I know it sells, but it’s not like rappers are making THAT much money. There are only a few who DO make enough money to talk big shit. The rap game is hurting right now. There’s A LOT of bullshit that gets A LOT of airplay. It’s a shame.
As far as Nas is concerned, I will have to listen to the album to make a fair judgment on the message. I haven’t downloaded it, don’t even know if it’s available. I’m in no hurry based on the title alone.
There is clearly a difference in nigga and nigger you just choose not to hear it. Nigga IS a term of endearment from one brother to another while we all know what nigger is used for. As for everything else that you write about I can’t agree with you more. As for nigga, I have no problem with another BROTHER calling me that.
If nigga is a term of endearment, then why can’t White people say it? Even to other White people? Hey, they’re saying it to their white “brothers.” They can’t because the whole “term of endearment” thing is a cop out. If it was really taking the negative aspect out of the word, EVERYBODY would be able to use it, because it no longer has a negative connotation.
Nigga is a BLACK term of endearment that is why white people can’t use it. That was a stupid question that I expected someone to ask. Personally I don’t have a problem if they call thier own niggas The whole term of endearment thing is not a cop out. When my boys say whats up nigga to me they ain’t dissin’ me the are saying what’s up. It IS really taking a negative and making apositive out of it that is why we do it. But once again this is blacks trying to take something away from blacks that is why we are the lowest race on the planet. We are always trying to fight against each other instead of trying to fix the real problems. Nigga is not nigger people get a grip. Fight for all the real racism out there instead of fighting against each other.
i love the song. please take a listen at the song and remove your preconceived ideas or feelings from it. hip hop culture is one of the biggest influences out today. the whole world worships it. every race wears the saggy jeans and the oversized clothes, uses our slang, and basically embraces nigga culture. thats why he says that we are all niggas. everyone knows we are powerful people. thats why they fear us and place such terrible strains on us to keep us from being gods. just listen to erykah badu’s new cd.
interesting how you all waste time over analyzing an art form. it is what it is. hate it or love it is his art form.
Plain and simple, hip hop fans are going to pay attention to his lyrics. But people who are not hip hop fans, will not, and thats the horrible thing. It will just seem like he is putting out that word. Allowing white, asian, hispanic anyone who isn’t black a chance to say that horrible word. It doesn’t matter how much he tried to explain his reasoning for using this word the way he is. It won’t matter, he will disrespect any person who has had to go through hardship because of this hateful word.
basically hes saying
everyone wants to be niggas while nobody wants to really be on the low end of the totem pole and just want the perks of being a nigga
To Ghetto187. I remember that NWA track and that’s where it came from but the way it’s said came from a Dr. Pepper commercial. You can check it out here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj159eGSKls
I’m gonna have to agree with Kevin. He explores the media’s impact on peoples’ perception of the word nigger while also satirizing peoples’ desire to “Be a Nigga too” despite the historic plight of black people.
No thanks boy. I don’t wanna be an ignorant fucking nigger-piece of shit. We’ll leave that to y’all. LOL.
F!ck u niggers that dont respect your roots im a nigger u a nigger but u dont acept it big up to real niggers cause we real im a nigga hes a nigga she a nigger we some niggers hhhaaaaaaaa fuck u cocnuts white wanna bes its all political niggers for life,,,,,,,,,,,hahahaha
OH and fuck JAZ cuz u the ignorant fucking niggers BITCH!
Everyone is ignorant in their own ways!!! Wat Nas is tryin 2 tell ya niggas is that “niggers” are people who have ever been discriminated against!! Niggers are people that are exploited for others gained!! “Niggers” are people that do not have the FREEDOM & RIGHTS that Amerikka has promised....The First Step to no longer being a “Nigger” is admiting & accepting that u are a “NIGGER”!!! PEACE! FREEDOM! & ONE LOVE FOR ALL PEOPLE!!!
CEEL, You have nothing to look forward to ha? To admittedly call yourself a NIGGER and not a NIGGA is pretty dumb. The definition of nigger is an ignorant person. Think before you speak… I guess in your ancestry there were niggers not in mine.
Does this mean I can say nigger now? I’m white so I have refrained from using this term but I want to be a real nigger. I think Nas is saying I can be a nigger too.
And there is no difference between nigga and nigger. People who say nigga are ignorant because they can’t speak proper english. Think about it my niggers!
That’s why Nas says nigga and not nigger on his Nigger album. He’s making fun of you nigga wannabes and he knows he isn’t a fucking nigger like some of you on here.
To your first question, Does this mean you can say nigger? Answer: If you want your ass kicked. There is a difference between nigga and nigger you are white so just shut the fuck up about something that you know nothing about. I say nigga and I’ll bet that I have more smarts in my dick than you have in your whole body. So if anybody up her is a nigger that would be you, your just a white nigger thats all fool. You are another white boy that I would like to see use that word in front of a group of black people and see how fast you would be hospitalized. Watch your mouth boy.
For all those who say NIGGA is a term of endearment, I ask you what you will say when a whitey mcCwhite man calls you a NIGGER. Will you reply Hay did you call me a NIGGer or NIGGa?- let us get real.. the African American still carry their African accent. That is the reason they pronounce it NIGGA-wata-butta- Get the point? How about if I said a student loone- meant-I do not have to pay this money back? NOPE that doesn’t work. Get a clue dumb as NIGGA’s. When these white boys call you a nigger, you should say thank for the compliment-- right? Black China
You claim you use the word nigga, but why? Do you say it to just fit in or are you an idiot? I bet your the same type of person that talks one way around your black people but another around white people.
Also, how old are you? I doubt you have ever experienced true racism and know what it really feels like to be called a nigger.
Your just another fake ass young joc with a dirty mangina.
OK some of us like to claim that we don’t know the difference between nigga and nigger. The white man now has told you that we can’t call each other nigga and you now have run with it. You are so controlled by the white media that they have you turned against your own. They have you thinking nigger and nigga are the same and you bought into it. The white man has you right where he wants you, arguing against your own, and you don’t even realize it. WAKE UP!!! Find a real issue to fight for instead of this.
I use the word nigga because I fuckin feel like it. Yes, when I am on the streets i have my street attitude but in the OFFICE I use my professional tone. Any person with a brain would do the same dummy. You are the type of wanna be black white boy that wears pants sagging off your ass all the way to a job interview. I have experienced more racism in my life then you will in 2 life times punk. That is why I can speak on this. Like I said please use it in front of a group of blacks and see what you will get. Come out from behind the keys please…
Anyway, to be honest I just posted to piss people off. Sorry if I offended anyone.
I really never use the word nigger or nigga because I believe it’s one of the most disrespectful and disgusting words. I don’t dress black or even act black. If you saw me in person you would never know I was a fan of true hip-hop.
However, I believe that anyone who uses the word nigga (no matter the color) as a replacement for “friend” or “buddy” is not only disrespecting themselves but everyone around them. To me, the word nigga (which should only really be used by black people, I guess) is the equivalent to calling someone a bitch or fuck up.
Either way this song is hot.
Your opinion about us using the word shouldn’t matter to any of us because you aren’t one of us. It clearly isn’t a sign of disrespect otherwise we wouldn’t call each other that.
huh?
We blacks like to keep the hate going and using this word is one way to do it. You ain’t black we hate you - you black we with you - character doesn’t matter - keeping hate alive is our peace. We are the biggest fakers on the planet. We say peace but we want hate. We are screwed up in the head. One of us must impress the rest to stop being haters and join the human race as contributors. A leader is needed not a hater cheerleader. A leader. We need to get over our issues of hate and the past. The other people on the planet have done this well before we had our issues. You want to Change something then Change the way we black people for the most part only are impressed with hype and glitter and show us to be impressed with good and self-responsibility. That would be peace. Screw the peace that punk rappers portay. That is only to have us worship them and support their lifestyles while we remain down and unmotivated haters. Screw them rappers. They better stay out of my way. I’m on the move up and not staying down in their hate filled spew. Join me.
I will join you brother. You said a lot. Stop the hate. That should be number one. We’ll take it up from there.
Let’s leave the past behind and forge ahead as planetary contributors. Rappers will find that their hate ain’t working for them anymore. Their story is way old news and we ain’t concentrating on their old problems anymore - their old stories anymore - we are concentrating on improving ourselves - not their pocketbooks anymore. Rap is a farce and a racket. Screw that and screw them. I am with you Larry. The rap worshippers will be left behind and will be prison and graveyard bound. ENOUGH!!!!!! Anew outlook - a new life.
Don’t be fooled everyone this is a stupid racist white person writing the post above. Fuck you, you racist. Stay off our site white boy. We will live our life and you live your animal fucking life.
Larry and JMo are white boys do not listen to them.
Not only is that a white boy, that’s the same white boy using a different post name trying to start something. We are too smart for you white boy. GO HOME…
Tell your police officers to stop the hate. You are the people that hate not blacks. Everytime I turn around they are kicking and beating up another black man because they know in a one on one we are superior to them so they become legalized gang members (police officers) so the can feel like they are equal to us in a physical battle. So when you say stop the hate look in the mirror and point the finger at yourselves.
I actually think Nas is brilliant; recreating the tension that word brought about way back when. I’m not African American. I’m actually creole, so I get it on both sides of the fence, but Nas is attacking the very core of it all, attacking the social brackets, racial brackets, all brackets. When we all heard Eminem said nigger way back when, most people were shocked, but I wasn’t even concerned, because Eminem seems more niggerish to me than alot of black people I know. I’d give him a ghetto pass if I could. And we listen to music where artists say nigga all the time, but Nas makes it an album cover and everybody’s upset? Much love to the antagonist, doing what he does best...provoking everybody into choosing a side all over again, and his following can only grow as he himself continues to grow as an artist, and as a person. Remember, if it wasn’t for white people, Caribbean people would still be slaves, and African Americans would still be picking that cotton. All Nas is saying is that we should desensitize the whole thing. Speaking out against racism is a much better message than say...Soulja Boy with Crank Dat. “Hip Hop is dead, we the reason it died.” One.
I’m confused. Is he saying that everybody can be a nigga? Like an application is available or that people go through the same shit that niggers went through and then can sympathize. The chorus is ambiguous.
