Pimp C from UGK Found Dead in Los Angeles Hotel Room
Chad “Pimp C” Butler, of UGK fame, was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel room today; pardon me while I pause on that. Wow. He was staying at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles, where this past Saturday he and Too Short (among others) had performed.
He was expected to check out yesterday, but with no sign of him, his family called the Mondrian hotel this morning asking if he was still there. Security went up to check his room, that’s when they found his lifeless body in the hotel room bed. Although Pimp C made some disparaging remarks over the last few months, directed at Atlantans in general and Young Jeezy in particular, there was no signs of a dirty deed; apparently he died in his sleep.
An official from the coroner’s office said, “At this time there’s no signs of foul play. It appears to be possibly natural, but pending autopsy and toxicology we can’t say the cause.”
No word from his partner Bun B, as of yet, but his manager Rick Martin who identified his body, had this to say..
“This morning saw the loss of a man that was not only a client, but a very dear friend at a time when he had the most to live for. He was my best friend and I will always love him.”
I can honestly say I was a fan of southern hip-hop, before it was synonymous with ringtone mania. That’s when UGK was pushing their first album “Too Hard to Swallow.” Songs like “Pocket Full of Stones” were just ear candy - meaning I listened, but didn’t buy the album.
The followup “Super Tight” and especially “Ridin Dirty” were on constant rotation in the car. I’d kill chicks with it, darting through Brooklyn, laughin’, telling em’, “You don’t know nothing about this.”
Of course, they didn’t want to anyway. Haha. Just don’t touch that dial.
It’s too bad Pimp C got caught up with the law just when UGK could have bounced off of Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” for the major shine UGK never quite received.

Although I didn’t grow up in the south I was introduced to the style at the tender age of 13. Honestly and truthfully it began with 1 of the greatest southern hip hop songs of all times (A pocket full of stones). I could not “relate” to the song per-say, but it hit home BECAUSE of my environment. It hit home when he went to jail, and now I can’t stop crying because you’re gone. I must say, I didn’t even feel this way when Pac died. I feel like I lost a piece of me, and because I feel this way I will forever mourn you. I love you and will think of you everyday for the rest of my life. REAL TALK!!
