Shaquille O'Neal and Shawn Marion

Shaq Traded to the Phoenix Suns. Miami Heat Get Sunshine from Marion

The self-proclaimed Last Don of the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal was officially traded to the Phoenix Suns this afternoon in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. Word bubbled about the trade yesterday, but most people took it as a bad joke.

We’re not talking about 60 point unstoppable monster Shaq Daddy. This is, “Ow, my back, my knee, my old man hip. Give me a few weeks to get it together,” Shaq Daddy.

Brand spanking new president of operations Steve Kerr said, “We’re thrilled to add a player and person of Shaquille’s quality to our roster. We believe this addition strengthens our team. We thank Shawn and Marcus for their contributions to our team. Shawn in particular has been a tremendous player for this organization the past eight-and-a-half years and his impact both on and off the court in Phoenix will not be forgotten.”

Shawn Marion was unhappy with his role on the Suns. Presumably, Steve Kerr’s idea was to suck out the poison Marion was spreading through the locker room and bring in someone who would allow Amare Stoudemire to shift to his natural position at power forward. Shaq will take a more specialized role. No need to score, just rebound, block shots and be the unmovable brick wall three hundred pounds of man tends to be.

How Grandad will be able to keep up with the pace of the Suns’ run and run faster offense remains to be seen. If Shaq can sit out until he’s fully healthy, he may give the Suns the defensive force they’re looking for in the playoffs.

Shaq didn’t ask for the trade and he has a lot of pride, so Miami pushing him overboard will be additional motivation to conjure up some of that Shaq of the Laker days. Having a chance to deny Kobe once again during the playoffs will be fun too. I’m a big believer in the revamped Pau Gasol Laker lineup, so that may prove tough.

Pat Riley and Dwayne Wade

All this talk about Shaq, Miami is the big winner in this steal.

Pat Riley pulled off a genius move. Riley looked sick on the sidelines watching his team slog through games week after week. With each game Dwayne Wade could be heard ruffling through his files, searching for that opt out date on his contract.

Bringing Shawn Marion onboard rids them of an aging player’s contract and gives Miami a younger two-headed threat. Marion won’t have to worry about sharing the ball with Amare so it’ll be he and Wade slicing through defenses up and down the Eastern seaboard. They will run more and Ricky Davis will be able to contribute as well.

Now if Pat Riley can get Mark Blount to jump for a rebound or two, swing his arms just once, they might have a center that can fill one of Shaq’s good shoes.

Winner: Miami Heat

Homes, WTF are you talking about?  Shaq has at least one more championship in him.  If even out of spite.  Just sit back and watch.  This was a power move by the Suns.  And whats this grandad shit you’re talking about?  I thought you were a grown man.  Sure 36 is up there for the NBA, but I’m sure he’s not much older than you.  What does that make you?

I’m being kind. Peter Vescey on NBA TV called him The Big Arthritis. Sure, there is a possibility that Shaq has a little left in the tank, but if it was a GIVEN Pat Riley would’ve never let him go.

I hope Shaq does come back strong.
When the Lakers and Suns meet early in the playoffs. The Kobe/Shaq drama is gonna make for great games.

Now if Lebron can get Jason Kidd, this season of gluing hungry all-stars together will be complete.

The Phoenix Suns have been very successful since they began play as an expansion team in 1968, making it to the NBA playoffs on several occasions, and even appearing in the NBA Finals a couple times; however, they have not won the championship. The Phoenix Suns excite their fans with their fast style of play, for that the number of fans are increasing, and If you’re one of those fans or you’ve just decided to be and you want to attend their games. There’s an interesting website, which I use all the time to get tickets, and really they have cheap ones. Here’s the link:

Anyhow I though this is something would interest you, a tip from a Phoenix Suns fan
GO Phoenix Suns!!

IDK if this was a good trade or not…we’ll see how shaq plays.  If he can’t keep up with the suns, he’s screwed…if he can, they’ll be great.  He’s got a lot of experience in the big games and that will help him loads.
