I don’t agree with him about retiring just because no one else is doing what he’s interested in. If anything it’s an opportunity to stand out. As far as old school hip-hop, it’s impossible to look at the past and not see that the music has changed dramatically. But I’m telling you.. if all you do is look at what was, you’ll miss today and tomorrow, and your yesterday will be as gloomy as Tuesday because of the rotisserie of sad sack emotions on your plate.

Looking at the past is great, honoring, learning from it, letting it shine for a day.. fantastic. I do it all the time. Let’s dig in Janet Jackson’s bag right now.. “What have you done for me lately?”

All artists should consider that when they approach a new project. The archives and Hall of Fame consist of what’s already made, it’s up to you to create the next album worthy of a spot on the shelf.
