The NY Giants Win the Superbowl!

I don’t watch football or baseball, they’re both sports I only pay attention to during the playoffs. So picking a favorite team usually comes down to a choice between the bandwagon or Davey waving his fists at Goliath. Which to choose? The Giants made that choice easy: you always root for the home team when it’s crunch time.

What kind of New Yorker ever wanted Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls to beat the Knicks? The Boston Red Sox and Yankee fans have a passionate hatred for each other that I don’t feel, but I want the Red Sox to lose every time they step foot in the Bronx.

The week before last night’s game, Tom Brady was all over New York, hopping on a bad ankle in one picture, skipping in the next, and smiling like America’s Next Top Model the entire time.
It was the Giant’s Plaxico Burress’ comment that the final score would be 23 -17 and Brady’s smug response.. We’re only gonna score 17 points?!? Ok.. Is Plax playing defense?  .. I wish he said like 45, 42, or something like that. At least he’d give us a little more credit for scoring a few points.”

Maybe that’s how the quarterback of an 18-0 football team is supposed to respond, but the way he said it, in a a dismissive and amused tone, that took the fan thing beyond hometown pride.

As uneventful as the first half of the game was, you couldn’t have asked for a better ending.

The Giants go up 10-7. Brady wakes up and slices the Giants up for a Randy Moss touchdown.

Then Eli Manning calmy does the unbelievable in the 2 minute march: he ducks a sacking, runs out to a pocket and throws down field for to David Tyree who landed in a backwards crab for the catch of the night.

After that play, the Giants had to win the game.

That little lob to Plaxico Burress seemed easy because it was a play they had practiced all week. In fact, Eli threw the same exact pass to him before the game started. Guess Belichick wasn’t filming that one.

The Giants were throwing Brady to the floor all night. As an exclamation point, on the first snap of the Patriot’s last possession, Brady got crushed by three players. What a way to end it.

It was a great game. Times Square was crazy. And tomorrow’s parade will be more of the same.
