Usher Explains Absence from BET Awards: Plans MJ Tribute

On Friday, BET President Debra Lee announced that Usher and Justin Timberlake would be last minute additions to the BET Awards/Michael Jackson tribute. Obviously that didn’t happen. Justin Timberlake didn’t give an explanation, but Usher issued a statement explaining that he was overseas and couldn’t make it to the awards in time.

“It is with regret that I was unable to participate in the BET Awards Tribute to Michael Jackson on June 28. When the BET Awards producers and organizers reached out to me to participate in the tribute, I was extremely flattered and humbled by the opportunity to pay tribute to the world’s greatest musical icon. Unfortunately I am currently overseas and would not make it back in time to the Awards show.”

Usher plans to work on a tribute to Michael Jackson when he returns home.

I hate to say this but I’m glad Usher didn’t perform. The BET awards had so much promise but they disappointed a lot of people.  The Network is going to pieces.  Frankie and Neffie?  Tiny and Toya? I don’t know what they’re thinking over there.  If they ever get back to shows like teen summit, or something positive and uplifting, I would consider giving them a chance again. Until then I’ll continue watching TV1.

yes I never watch this network on a regular basis it’s in a way degrading you know. Why is it that everything has to be negative or derogative… oh let me see, because it sells right because ya’ll all about the paper.. This is how money is the root to all evil ecause you rather sell out your own people and get on t.v and act a fool and think you’re getting paid. Usher you’re a brillant performer you’re music is beautiful and I love it.. And know ing that you didnt participate in that ghetto ravish of a show it was sweet bliss…

I agree with both of you but the problem is too many of us watch these shows. BET has been doing our race in for years and not enough of us even care about it. I too, can’t watch BET anymore and I remember the day when I couldn’t get enough of it. MsMoni, I am glad you brought up those to hot ghetto shows that are about to start on BET, those shows are doing nothing but glorifying the ghetto but you are right as long as they make BET money BET will continue to sell us out. I have truly had it with the exploitation of blacks that a black station would do, a station that many of us use to look up to.

Thank you Blambo I agree with you as well. BET has gone far and beyond the exploitation of it’s own people.  I don’t see how they can ax shows like Uncut(which I found funny and entertaining late at night) but allow that pastor to sell “anointed prayer clothes” and other foolishness to unsuspecting people of faith. The network has gone so far from uplifting black people.  They have no idea what the real black America wants anymore.  I feel like they watch the videos more than the kids do, they obviously believe the images they see in the videos they allow on their shows. It’s time for them to take some responsibility and start putting shows on that are about something.

Blambo and MsMoni I am with you on that. I think they are blinded by the money they are making off of the BS. Personally I am not a religious person but lot’s of people are and it’s sad to see what they do early morning i laugh at it because of my personal opinion but even more saddened by what they are doing to people who live and die for their faith. BET is dumbing down this generation and setting them up for failure. setting them up to be nothing but followers and token “N****RS” setting them up to be the typical black man/woman playing basketball or singing…..but thats just my opinion. and i really respect and agree with Blambo and MsMoni.

My people, you forget that BET hasn’t been black owned or operated in years!  That is why they no longer have decent programming.  It’s a sin that when a black owned business becomes a multibillion dollar entity, they more often than not, sell out to the white man.  Whitey then, with no regard to brand reputation, proceeds to throw any garbage @ us to continue raking in profits!  Robert Johnson (former owner & CEO of BET), shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!
