Bad Boys 2 - Soundtrack
 (Bad Boy Entertainment)

- reviewed by Chris G.

What do you do when your clips empty? Don't ask me. I'm not a gun fanatic and don't need one. Lucky for the b*tch ass nuckas in the street, because guns and a bad attitude are a deadly mix. Every day isn't sunny, with heat in the small of the back, things could happen. I'd be a smart, crazy ass criminal though: brains and violent tendencies lead you to the road to street riches and fame. I'm not into that at all. P Diddy isn't a violent guy either, but he does have brains. That's why when he took a look at his artist roster vs. the need to sell records, this first time out with the new Universal contract, he pulled in artists from outside the Bad Boy Headquarters.

The album is one of the better soundtracks released this year.. you know after that whole thing died out. Remember when every movie had the big hip-hop/r&b soundtrack attached to it? That died when the music turned out to be as wack as the movies they promoted.

PD's joint dips back to the earlier moments of that era, with enjoyable, but not classic material. "Shake Ya Tailfeather", the lead track, is a stab at pulling in the 4 million+ Nelly fans that love and hate him. The outcome is what you'd expect, a friendly lil rap song. What else would you expect from Nelly?

The rest of the album dances back and forth between street, "Flipside," R&B, "Pretty Girl Bullshit," and previously heard, popular tracks from Jay-Z and BIG/50 Cent. This my friends is called stacking the deck.. kind of like what The Lakers did this season when they added two all-stars, in addition to Kobe and Shaq, to their roster: 2 + 2 = 4 = guaranteed wins.

One note.. I hesitate giving tracks a 100 rating, listening to the energy on MOP's "Wanna Be G's" will be the first 100 from me. That's background music for a riot at the club or a concert. Love that, old school Brooklyn thug sound.
