Last week during President Obama’s press conference on health care, on the Tweet side, I pretty much predicted the firestorm that’s been blazing ever since he ‘stupidly’ sparked it with his comments regarding Henry Louis Gate’s arrest. Fifty-five minutes of back and forth on how to reshape health care and two seconds after the media decided to ignore all of it to embrace a virtually, throwaway remark. Terrorists, sex scandals, and angry black men are the easiest things to make into headline news. Hah. Yes, I’m done ranting..more..
From could be to reality, last Thursday, Taraji P Henson was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Queenie in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; look for her in the Best Supporting Actress category. The next morning Taraji was interviewed on The Early Show on CBS. She was ‘knocked out’ when the Oscar nominations were announced.. “I was comatose. ... I have a great group of friends, and they knew that I was gonna be angst. And they took me out the night before for a fabulous dinner. And then we went out for music and dancing just so I could have a light night and not think about it. And the tactic worked, because I got home. I was wiped out. And I was knocked out.”more..
You know the places, certainly know the faces. Last night Will Smith and Rosario Dawson were all smiles at the Mann Theater in Los Angeles. The red carpet was rolled out for the premiere of their new film Seven Pounds. Remember that? I wonder what seven pounds refers to. Does it tie into the surprise twist in the movie? If you have any interest in seeing this, you better be in a theater this weekend; once that quirk gets out you’ll find yourself, let’s say week two, watching the credits roll and thinking that was it? Kind of like knowing that Bruce Willis is Casper the Ghost in Sixth Sense or The Village is just off a six lane highway.more..
Last night The Secret Life of Bees premiered at The Academy Of Motion Arts & Sciences in Beverly Hills. The movie is an adaptation of the book by the same name written by Sue Monk Kidd. Don’t know a thing about it? Just picture Dakota Fanning (up above) in the early 60’s South having to leave her town after her nanny (Jennifer Hudson) insults a group of white men. They high tail it to Tiburon, South Carolina, in part to look for “the black madonna” and meet a group of black women who change Dakota’s life.more..
Last night Tyler Perry premiered his newest film “The Family That Preys” at Loews theater in New York. The movie is an original screenplay with a familiar feel. I really want to dig into dude for his predictable plots, but I can’t do that when he’s giving so many actors and actresses work they wouldn’t find any place else in Hollywood.
Not much in the way of pics this time: let’s hear what they have to say.more..
