Andre 3000 stiffed me on the tip

Andre 3000 Stiffs Waiter on Tip. Receipt Sold for $15 on Ebay

How much would you tip a waiter if the food was terrible, but he gave you all he had in service?

If your name is Andre 3000 the tip would be no dollars, zero cents. At least that’s the story Matt Moore, a student waiter at an Atlanta restaurant, is telling. With “Benjamin Andre L.” printed on the receipt, Matt Moore recovered the lost tip by selling it on Ebay.

In his words..

A couple months ago, I waited on Andre 3000. Yes, the rapper. He and his wife came into the restaurant where I wait tables. They landed in my section, and I gave all my other tables away, thinking it would behoove me to give undivided service to such high profile customers (my fellow servers also wanted extra tables for extra $).

After complaining about some of the food (they are vegan and we are a totally non-vegan restaurant), my manager took a big chunk of money off the bill. The chef had tried to please them with original dishes and took time out of the busy dinner to customize a meal for them. Despite the spot-on service and super-catered food, they felt the need to leave me no money. I had nothing to do with the food, yet he stiffed me.

That being said, I don’t want sympathy. I don’t want pity. All I want is the $9 tip I rightfully deserved. I am a student who depends on income to pay rent and continue my education.
Servers get paid about $2/hour, and we need tips.

Help a brother out since Andre wouldn’t.

Thanks in advance for your generosity. For eva, For eva eva,

Matt Moore

The winning bid was $14.50.

Andre should send him a check for double the amount. 😉

Who says that you have to tip anyone? It is his money and he can do whatever he pleases. Maybe the service was terrible. Who knows? Just because a person has some dough doesn’t mean he has to spend it the way that everybody else sees fit. Tip if you see fit 3000!!!

I ALWAYS tip however that is what I choose to do. No one told a waiter to get a job for less than minimum wages with hopes that the patrons would tip. If they do not like it got to a job that pays minimum wages and quit complaining!

Gratuity is optional, so its up to anyone’s discretion to tip or not to tip. I have always tipped around 20% for food service, even if the food and/or service were terrible. But since its optional, anyone can choose what to do. When they have the gratuity auto-filled in the receipt, then it becomes required.

PS. The only time I didn’t tip was when this guy working at Best Buy helped me carry out a tv stand, which I could’ve easily carried by myself. And this guy yelled at me rudely as I was assisting him in putting the stand in the backseat cause he was struggling to carry it by himself. Had he been polite, I would’ve gave him a nice tip.

So many errors:
He’s not married, for one, and he tips in cash, as I personally know many waiters who have met him here in Atlanta. This waiter decided to double dip.

period.

Is it possible the waiter thought it was his wife and this time he paid with a credit card?

Andre has obviously forgot where he came from and has forgotten that it was us the little people that has gotten him to where he is today, Now days he will step over anybody with out missing a beat…..Even if he tipped him the 9 bucks dude still wouldn’t have made enough to buy Andre’s demeaning record…I use to have respect for Andre, but now he’s just to famous, lol, Im starting to get him confused with prince from purple rain.

8 Wow Thu, Jul 31, 2008 - 5:48 pm

Why do you say he forgot where he came from? Is it because he chose to do with his money what he wanted to. His talent is what has gotten him where he is, not us. Why do we (the little people) think we have the right to tell the rich and famous what to do with their money. It’s his money and if he feels like tipping he can. If he doesn’t he does not have to.

Obviously you don’t remember the old and forgotten Andre from OUTKAST! He was a hustler trying to make it just like all of us, and just like that waiter. Yea its his money and yea he can spend it how he wants I just think he should remember he was once in the same predicament.

Restaurant servers have among the most thankless jobs imaginable.  They have to deal with people who can be the biggest assholes on earth, people who think that servers are little better than slaves.

If you receive good service at a restaurant, then you ought to tip.  If you can’t afford to tip, then off to a fast food drive in .

True restaurant servers have the most thankless job but that is the job they chose. Tipping is a choice. You or no one else can tell anyone what they should do with their money. To say if a person can’t afford to tip they should go to a fast food restaurant is about as dumb as you can get. If a person can afford to eat at a restaurant they can eat there tip or no tip. TIPPING IS OPTIONAL and if or any other server can’t accept that then they should get a new job.

2 questions? Y would the restaurant alter is menu and Y would you go to a non-friendly vegetarian restaurant, if you know you are vegan/vegetarian?

I would say that’s what the restaurant gets for going out of it’s way for someone who has fame and fortune.  Why would you alter your menu for them when they wouldn’t do it for anyone else?  I want to go to this restaurant and see if I get the same service.  Clear out all the other patrons and have my waiter/waitress closely serve me.

And tipping is an option.
