Chaka Khan and Bebe Winans Color Purple debut

Chaka Khan Makes Debut in The Color Purple and Scientology Musings

Last night, Bebe Winans, Chaka Khan and former American Idol contestant Lakisha Jones made their debut in the The Color Purple. They keep a rotating cast of faces over that The Broadway theater. Just before the New Year Chaka Khan sat down with New York Times reporter Celia McGee for a quick one on one in “The Many Shades of Chaka Khan, Now in ‘Purple’”.

Chaka Khan and Oprah laugh it up at Color Purple debut

In interviews long ago Chaka Khan said she hates acting. She went into the Color Purple interview/audition being a ‘complete bitch’ which only made Oprah want her more. Celia asked how she’ll transform into Sofia.

“I don’t have to. I am Sofia. We’re so much alike. We’re both nuts. Her fundamental application to life is the same emotionally. She’s one of the forefronters of women’s liberation and the first nonslave black woman who wasn’t a slave to anybody. I’m like that. I’d rather be dead. They might as well hang me. And like me Sofia comes from a matriarchal family. My mother’s side migrated up from Georgia. I had a lot of help from my ancestors with this. I saw such a kinship with the character. Still, I did everything I could to avoid [taking the role].

How about this.. she’s also flirting with Scientology.
It’s unbelievable how many entertainers get sucked into that, umm.. can you call it a religion?

She wears a charm bracelet that represents the three ARCS of Scientology, but she won’t admit being a member.

“I’m not, never was, never will be. I belong to the religion of the Church of Chaka Khan, and I practice it every day. I live my religion, I consider it a personal thing. But I’ve taken some courses in Scientology, and they’ve been very, very helpful through life’s ups and downs.”

Did you see what’s under that link?

The fact that you have to take courses to make it useful is completely understandable.

1 Scientology courses not required Thu, Jan 10, 2008 - 9:18 pm

“The fact that you have to take courses to make [Scientology] useful is completely understandable.”

Actually, you don’t have to take any courses to make Scientology useful.  You can get a tremendous amount of usefulness from free, Scientology-inspired websites all over the Internet.

Here are a couple:

Also, books on Scientology are incredibly useful in life.  “A New Slant on Life” and “Fundamentals of Thought” come to mind, and these are available very cheap on ebay.  And for a more accurate picture of Scientology’s religious heritage, I’d recommend these pages from a Hindu Scientologist:

it’s amazing how a few people still get suckered into the media mantra of “one person lying and another swearing to it” particularly when it comes to Scientology.  Scientology is one of the finest organizations to have graced earth.  It is funny watching a media numbed fellow read and understand some actual L. Ron Hubbard and realize what a sucker he has been to have believed some unknown other.  People finding out how simple, workable and effective Scientology really is, is one of the reasons Scientology is expanding as rapidly as it is.

3 Scientology? what expansion do you mean, but money Fri, Jan 11, 2008 - 1:28 am

Scientology is NOT simple. It’s so unworkable that most people never get sucked into it by anything but by lies: the personality test used in the cult is fabricated to show people much worse than they are in fact, and if ever you put all the good answers, they’ll declare that you’re badly needing scientology, since you live in unrealities!

4 Scientology is totally workable Fri, Jan 11, 2008 - 1:39 am

You are either misinformed about Scientology or believe what you read in gossip blogs. I’ve been in for 30 years and it is the most sensible and rational philosophy I’ve ever encountered. It’s growing rapidly as evidenced by it’s expansion internationally over the past two years. The personality test is a very accurate assessment of where an individual can be helped, if he/she wants. Obviously it’s not for you.

5 very workable! Fri, Jan 11, 2008 - 3:49 pm

Whoever says Scn is “unworkable” knows nothing about it. All you have to do is pick up some Hubbard books and read for yourself. (But if you go into it already convinced that it’s a “cult”, then you’ll only see what you want to see.)

6 Then what happened to the old personality test? Fri, Jan 11, 2008 - 8:28 pm

1:39 am says “The personality test is a very accurate assessment of where an individual can be helped”, which I guess must mean that this is a completely different test from the one with the same name that Scientology used to use, which has long been proven to be completely useless.  How was it proven, you ask?  The answer is simple:  Experimenters presented themselves as ordinary citizens taking the test.  One chose at random which answer he would give as a response before even seeing the question.  The second used a method which selected a “yes” or “no” answer to return based solely on the last letter of the question; the third used the same method as the second, but with the “yes” and “no” reversed.

Now, tell me, what kind of personality test returns nearly identical results in response to two profiles that answer every question exactly opposite?  What kind of personality test returns the same result as the first two for a set of answers chosen at random?  I’ll give you a hint:  Each experimenter was told that their test results showed where they could be helped ... by Scientology ... at a cost.

Scientology redefines works like workable and useful.

“in an unusual twist on the notion of bringing aid to the destitute, Churilov says his group arrived in Aceh with nothing and were given tents by the army and food by friendly locals. Unfazed that the aid flow was meant to go the other way, he used this as an example of how well accepted the Scientologists were by local people, rather than as an example of traditional manners.”

Anyone vaguely interested in Scientology should read L. Ron Hubbard’s “Dianetics” Book. I thought it was awful—poorly written, filled with some downright weird imagery and no evidence to support his bizarre claims.

Get the facts at: http://www.scientology.org
It’s all very scary if you support:
over drugging of children;
illiteracy;
walking around half asleep.

If you want to do something to improve conditions, check out the above web site.

It drives the negative-nancies nuts that a social betterment group like Scientology is experiencing enormous growth despite their same old tired lines, the same BS over and over.

Take a look for yourself and make up your OWN mind.
