Kanye West Staggers 50 Cent

First Round Stagger! Kanye’s Graduation Puts a Hurtin on Curtis

The results are in and Kanye West struck with a powerful blow. First week album sales, by way of hitsdailydouble, have Kanye at 930,251 - 50 sagged behind with 659,682. For everyone that bought Kanye’s CD, give yourself a pat on the back. You’ve helped give the first smack in the head to record execs that believe lyrics and new sounds don’t matter. As you should know though, this is a 12 round brawl, it’s album sales in total that’s gonna determine the true winner.

50 has tagged his first round loss on scam tactics at store registers.

Talking in the third person 50 said.. “He’s never had a fraction of the sales 50 Cent has. They could have only one scan and have it count four times. West’s entire career hasn’t sold half what I sold on my first album.”

What 50 fails to realize is since his first album the music world has changed - and so has he.

He’s so stuck on what’s best for business that he spits out predictable commercial joints. The sound and imagery he used to slap around Cam’ron is where he needs to be.

Tell me that doesn’t feel like first album 50. He needs somebody to really be pissed at to get crafty.

In any case. Kanye’s not a fan of 50’s new album, reportedly saying..“It’s really not my style ... I think the days of that kind of hip-hop are over.”

So what kind of hip-hop does Kanye make?.. Let Island Def Jam chairman LA Reid answer that question.

LA Reid

“I think he [Kanye] probably means more to the greater good and the larger world of music - he probably means more there then he does to hip-hop. He comes from hip-hop - and, yet, he’s not the same. There’s something different. He’s like pop art in the middle of hip-hop. He’s like the Andy Warhol of music.
- Paste magazine, Sept. 07

Despite the huge first week numbers for both of them, the thing to watch will be who slides the furthest in the 2nd week. It happens with every album. In that situation, less is better. If 50’s four-to-one allegation is right, there should be some balancing out on the score cards in the coming days.

Yo i gotta let ya know Kanye aint that nice, I do give him props though. He got hot joints on there. It’s just that people are lookin’ for positive music and I think if 50 didnt start that contest, he would have at least sold a 100 thousand more records. The simple fact that people hearing that kanye is talking bout something other than hoe’s, drugs, and gunz gave him the upper hand this time.Fiddy needs to make some positive music but you cant see him doing that with his background. Only so many rappers can pull that off if any the only one’s i know about are 2pac(Keep ya head up),Nas,(countless positve hits) Ludacris(Runaway Love)~even thou im not sure about that one like i said many rappers wont be able to make a transition like that one. Anyway big ups to both of them..they doin they thang. I got both their ablums, nah mean. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Problem with Kanye is his delivery.  Straight nursery rhymes style.  Beats and production is tight, but when he opens his mouth its like WTF!?  I guess this is why many other producers stick to just that.

As you all know tomorrow is September 20th and Mychal Bell the 1st of the Jena 6 is being sentenced.

I’m not so sure what’s actually going to happen since his conviction was thrown out about a week ago.

I was reading up on the latest developments and the only hip-hop/rap/neo-soul icon (whatever you wanna call him) that’s showing up is MOS DEF…and somehow David Bowie…of all people…has managed to donate 10,000 dollars….what’s going on guys?

He didn’t even harm Cam’ron with his “Funeral Music” song. 50 Cent is garbage. First he goes from dissing JaRule for making women rap or whatever he called it, and then he turns around and does the same damn thing..on the same damn album he used to diss JaRule.

You graduate they can’t tell you nothing, you become successful your welcome to the goodlife, people hate me that makes me stronger, like just stop hatin’ and buy the damn album seriously. 50 cent’s new album you can match songs from curtis with songs from the Massacre like its just alittle better the Massacre but still not as great as Graduation.

50,YOU SHOULD HAVE KEPT YOUR MOUTH CLOSED AND YOU WOULD HAVE WON THIS BATTLE. YOU BROUGHT NEGATIVE ATTENTION TO THIS SITUATION SO PEOPLE WANT TO SEE YOU FAIL. YOU COULD HAVE EASILY WON THIS BATTLE. I’M NOT SAYING WHO IS BETTER BUT YOU COULD HAVE WON. SHHH, BE QUIET.
