Jay-Z Back in the Studio, Inspired By “American Gangster”
You had to think this was gonna happen. Jay-Z is back in the studio recording a concept album inspired by the movie “American Gangster” starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. The movie is set for release this November, as is the album which will share the same title.
The release date is Nov. 6th. Which is what? Two months from now. But it doesn’t take “Rainman” much time to come up with a verse. This should be the album that everyone expected “Kingdom Come” to be. He can reach back to what he knows without thinking if he’s being real about reminiscing on the streets while he just rolled off 1000 thread count sheets and sipping Chai tea.
That’s something he relayed to Ski, a producer on his first two albums. Ski asked Jay-Z about doing some “Reasonable Doubt” type material again, Jay told him it wouldn’t be honest because he isn’t living that life anymore. As noted, with the inspiration being the heroin dealing kingpin Frank Lucas, he has no choice but to pull a total recall.
Ever the competitor, Kanye’s 900K week had to play a factor as well.
