Kanye West Talks 808’s and Heartbreak + “Heartless” Video(!) It’s Pop Art
“Heartless” is the second single off Kanye West’s 808’s and Heartbreak. If you close your eyes or just happened to turn on the radio, you’d think it was a T-Pain production. As you know by now, the entire album will consist of Kanye singing from the depths of his soul - so be prepared to hate it or love it, with no space between the two.
Kanye West was interviewed in Singapore and talked about the thinking behind the album and his new sound.

“Pop is such a clear lane and stuff, for people to do like bullshit music and it still works. So what happens if you take a person that’s like super credible, from the hip-hop world. Saying, ‘Ok. I conquered this world and I come into a lane where there is a bunch of bullshit being made and be like. Ok, such and such, you have to compete with this.
And I have like 72 bars of real life lyrics, that’s from my life, that I wrote. Now compete with this.
The genre for this sound is pop-art.”
He finished that saying only Pink Floyd could fit in the same category. Everybody laughed. Kanye wasn’t joking. So he has his conceptual hat on, and at least trying to be creative. I’m waiting to hear the
entire album, track by track, in one sitting before making a definitive judgment.

Truth be told. “Love Lockdown” is unlistenable. This song grew on me at about the 1:50 mark.

What is unlistenable about the song? The terrible singing. Kanye’s good though, he has a lot of people brainwashed to think anything he touches turns to gold and you guys are falling for it. The song sucks just like the last one.
The song is as crazy as that damn shirt he has on in that photo. What is up with this dude lately?

If Kanye had originally come out in a genre besides hip hop, no one would be having the “what’s wrong w/ dude” conversation.
This has been done w/ Common, with Erykah and others who are supposed to fit into a box—get over it! Music is music. People are supposed to grow and change.

There is a difference in trying something different and just plain going crazy. Kanye is going crazy… Common never did anything like this and lets not compare this to anything close to what Erykah Badu does. This shit is corny but just because he is Kanye he can get away with this mess. Good for Kanye, bad for music.
I’m loving all of Kanye’s new ish. I just hope that a million other folks don’t start trying to immitate and copy his style… cause it can get real old, real fast.
Yeah right, it’s a go. It can go right into the toilet. This song is tragic. I hope millions of other folks don’t try this mess either but because this mess is horrible, not anyting to listen too at all…
I dunno I think the vocolizer effect is starting to get played out. T-PAIN open doors or should I say brought it back for mad artists to take advantage of it but, its getting played out to me. Still a good song though, the brother just wants to sing so if he needs help then let him be..!
