The Big Three - Boston Celtics 2008 NBA Champions

Kevin Garnett Knocks the Bully Out: Boston Celtics Win the Championship!

As a New Yorker, I had no favorite team to win the NBA championship. I’m a Knick fan, first. A great player fan, second. Between Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett, who could I side with? I like them both. All I looked for was a great series, and to make it interesting, how about Kobe Bryant take the Boston Celtics to the brink?

After the Lakers first win, Kevin Garnett was at a loss for words during the press conference. This is all he ever wanted: the opportunity to play for a championship. The Celtics were still a game up, but Kevin Garnett has had some success in the playoffs, only to see it slip away. Dude was nervous. That’s when I made the decisive switch to root for the Celtics. Through years of half-ass teams, Garnett has put so much of himself into the game and when his best chance to win a ring pops up.. Now I want him to fall? Nah, that’s for the sour patch kids.

Blessedly, Kevin Garnett had Paul Pierce by his side. He slipped into leadership mode during the playoffs; Pierce’s confidence and desire kept them focused.

The Celtics lived and breathed for the championship all year long. Despite a few slippery moments, the Lakers didn’t stand a chance. Kobe Bryant didn’t run into Piru, it was a pack of hungry wolves.

While the Lakers played school yard defense, as in >> not interested, it didn’t help that they couldn’t score either.
The Celtics locked Kobe Bryant on the perimeter, and still managed to glue trap the rest of the team. It was as if they had eight players on the court. And on the other end it was way too easy..

Because the Celtics wanted it. That’s always the X factor.

I did 10 years in Brooklyn back in the days so I’m also a Knicks’ fan, but Boston was my favorite for the playoffs.  I gotta say it was strictly because of KG’s intensity.  You could just see desire when that cat was on the court.  Yeah Paul was the man and all, but Garnett really deserved this one.  Now there is no need for Bill Russell to donate one of his rings to Garnett.  Big up yourself!

how come my boy Ray Allen gets no love from you? Despite being the most consistent performer in these finals? Does Ray deserve it any less than the other two? He made as much sacrifices as anyone to get this result. It’s difficult to find genuinely selfless all-star athletes in any sport, and I think Ray deserves much more credit than he’s given.

Ahh, at last… We WON… The Celtics are the world champions. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and the captain Paul Pierce all deserve this championship. Garnett should have been the league MVP sometimes stats get too much credit. Garnett brought intensity and winning to a team that was dead a year ago. Ray Allen brought sharp shooting and Paul has been steady all year and rose to the occasion in the Finals. We beat the Lakers, a team with the best player in the game today in Kobe Bryant, the comparisons to Michael Jordan can now STOP, and a coach in Phil Jackson that is so overrated. Doc Rivers clearly did a better coaching job than Jackson. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS…

The Celtics are the greatest team in the NBA right now. They have all the factors of any great superstar team. They have a superstar {superstars in this case), great surrounding players, and an amazing bench. They deserved this title more than anyone. Im sick of people saying that Kobe is as good as Micheal Jordan. He will never be as good. If he was that good he would have brought his team up from bad games and carried them. He is just any other great player. Congrats Celtics, you guys ROCK.

Kobe is overated.  If anyone thinks he is all great than they are a bug in the room

Boston Boy you are right on the money. Koby IS tragicly overrated. I am so tired of hearing how he is in the same class with Michael Jordan. Hell, He ain’t even in the same class with Bird and Magic. He is no Charles Barkley, He is no Dominique Wilkins and he showed that in this series. On paper the Lakers had a better team than the Celtics but they don’t have the chemistry that the C’s have and with a guy like Kobe or Iverson on your team it will be hard to win a chamionship. I know people are going to say Kobe has 3 rings but they are all because of Shaq not Kobe. Any true basketball mind will know that Kobe is a tallent but not yet a winner.

That’s year was magical… I’v been a KG fan since 2000 or so, but I told everybody the Celtics was gone win the championship. When the playoffs came everybody keep sayin “what’s wrong with the Celtics” cause they went 7 with the Hawks, 7 with the Cavs and 6 with the Pistons. But all those games was getting us ready for The Finals. The three big games was game six with the Pistons. If we would have went 7 I don’t think we would of lost the finals. Game 4 in the finals was a huge one. And game 7 Vs the Cavs was also I huge one.
