Mary J. Blige Waves the Auto-Tune Flag: “The One”
These days, for the most part, when I hear music I don’t like, I simply pass it by. This one (pun almost intended) I couldn’t pass up. A new Mary J. Blige track called “The One” leaked to these internets recently and, shock and horror, Mary is using Auto-Tune. Admittedly, it is used sparingly — on the chorus and certain phrases — but its use is so light, she could have done without it. In the song Mary talks about people having ‘‘nothing on her.” You know, her swag/style is singular - yet, to make this point she decided to do what every other wannabe, can’t hold a note singer is doing to fake the funk.
“The One” is produced by Rodney Jerkins. A guy who has share of hits and is supposed to be a music purist, but when he pulls up the robovoice in ProTools is he really anything more than someone chasing relevancy by following a trend? An unforced trend. People aren’t in the streets demanding their songs be sweetened with synthetic vocals. It’s just one artist decides to use it, has a catchy/popular song.. Hey, I’m gonna do it too. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Although some would argue: Mary can sing. Has done so on multi-platinum albums, Grammys, and a couple of classics. Why strap on the amateur backpack at this stage in the game?

Well, to me she can’t sing anyway so it really doesn’t matter. Sad to see her do it because despite her average voice she could throw a decent concert now she is damaging that too. Well if it makes money for those who do it why not join in and get paid. Music sucks now and she is proving my point.
if mary couldn’t sing she wouldn’t still be in the game and as long as she has been you need to show respect to the queen because she been here for a long time and will stay until she say she done. I admit music is not what it used to be but she one of the best singers still giving hope for music to be better. I personally like the song because most of it she using her voice only in the chorus can i hear the auto tune so its not like she did a t-pain and used the thing in the whole song for every lyric and this is a leaked song who is to say it will be her single??? And its called testing to see how fans react if its not good i bet she won’t use it plus the song tells the truth not one person has anything on her she been at the top and always will be.
There are a lot of singers that can’t sing so the notion that if she couldn’t sing she wouldn’t still be in the game makes no sense. I don’t need to show respect to her, SHE IS NO QUEEN. Her songs ARE hot but it clearly isn’t because of her average voice. To say not one person has nothing on her is a stretch don’t you think??? She is an OK singer that has run into some great songs and that’s all she is.

I am too stupid to have a debate over weather Mary can sing or not so like a child I resort to posting under the persons name that I disagree with. If someone disagrees with me this is what I have to resort to because I didn’t finish high school. One day, hopefully I will be able to have a grown up debate. Until then I will continue with my childish ways.

Its not a bad song, I mean just because Jay Z brought up that auto tune ish doesnt mean when its used, we shouldnt like it. I say, it works for SOME songs, NOT all. Unlike those out there that need to use auto tune, Mary can choose to use it if she wants, cuz she can definitely sing.
