New Edition Grabs ASCAP Golden Note Award + Ralph Tresvant “It Must Be You”

New Edition’s comeback attempt on Bad Boy Records didn’t quite work out. One Love gave way to one single, “Hot 2Nite.” They fought with Diddy over marketing and a tight budget, which caused the two to split before a second single could be squeezed out of the album.

Despite their lack of success in recent years, 08’ marks New Edition’s 25th Anniversary.
Tonight in Los Angeles at the 21st Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, ASCAP will honor New Edition with the Golden Note Award. The Golden Note is given only to songwriters, composers, and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones.
ASCAP President and Chairman Marilyn Bergman reflected.. “Over the last 25 years, New Edition has experienced success on multiple levels to become true legends. The group has firmly left their mark on today’s music, and ASCAP is very proud to honor them.”

No word when the next New Edition album will materialize, but Ralph Tresvant is set to drop an album on his own. The first single “It Must Be You.” will be available on Itunes on July 15.

Sorry but enough is enough! These guys need to move on…honestly. I mean, I don’t mean to be rude. I’ve learned the words to some songs from back in the day so I totally respect em. It’s just that…if it didnt work the first time, what makes you think it’s gonna work the fifth?

Low key though…I was feelin “Hot Tonight”...

I like it. His voice sounds more raspier than ever. And yes Keis you are sorry. Why should singers quit singing because they haven’t had a hit song lately. They can tour forever on their hit songs. I’m guessing you weren’t around when they first came out if you are just learning the words to their old songs. Their mistake was signing with Puffy. He was trying to replace 112 and marketing to teenyboppers.  I can’t wait for their anniversary tour.

NE is a group that stays true to it’s code, the bad boy venture look like a sale out, but really I think it was a way to get their foot back in the music industry door. The next album will not disapoint, with producers like their old pals jimmy jam and terry lewis, to writers like Ne yo. I think there going to blow everyone away.

I’m proud of NEW EDITION , you have so many groups nowadays that can’t stick together for 5 minute’s or even 5 years. This group is going strong thru all kinds of craziness, for 25 years and counting. I am & will always be a loyal fan. Keep doing what you do NE for as long as your able to.
