Hillary Clinton Gives Victory speech in New Hampshire

The Winner by TKO is Hillary Rodham Clinton!

That’s all folks. Hillary Clinton pulled off a 39 - 36% win over Barack Obama, a huge victory considering all the polls, from her camp to Barack to media sources all over the map, predicted she would lose in double digits. Instead she gets the slim win. South Carolina and Nevada are next up, but I believe Barack Obama has had his moment; like it or not, Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic nomination. Oh great, another prediction? Haha.

Before Iowa, Hillary Clinton was ahead in New Hampshire, but she is who she is, a soulless Conehead robot, watch old SNL, listen to her speak, you’ll get the reference. Her lack of felt passion made it easy for Barack to upstage her. And coming off that victory speech in Iowa he looked like the clear choice for change that a lot of people are looking for in November.

Then her eyes got watery, and Hillary called it.. she found her voice.

The smashing she took for that really made some women change or just solidify their decision to vote for her. It looked like she was being unfairly picked on. So she got the sympathetic girl power vote and anyone who may have flirted with the idea of voting for Barack Obama made a last minute decision to stick with their original choice.

Hillary finding her voice did something else though, it gave people not comfortable or entirely sure about a black man being the face of this country an option.

Barack losing in New Hampshire didn’t mean it was a purely racist vote. No candidate for president sweeps through every state, you win some you lose another, it’s part of the process. At the same time, you can’t pretend that race isn’t a factor in people’s decisions.

Barack Obama gives concession speech in New Hampshire

Up until Hillary’s crying moment, I don’t think people paid much attention to Barack being a black man. It has something to do with excelling as a person of color, you become, not like the others. You’re your own entity: Barack Obama, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods. Once Hillary was left all alone in the corner though and Barack was on center stage, it’s like someone turned on the reality lights and said.. “What are we doing? We’re putting a black man in the White House?”

No one wants more of the Bush dictator style of government or stiff routine policies, they want change, but a Barack Obama change is simply uncomfortable to a lot of people.

Barack Obama supporter - former Republican in New Hampshire

Not everyone, most of his support has come from white people thus far, but along the way the ambivalent vote will be enough to make a difference.

White people, especially in the media, don’t want to be perceived as racist though, and with Hillary Clinton in robotic mode, her sense of entitlement to the nomination, there was a feeling that Barack Obama was an option they had to consider.

I truthfully believe that’s done.

Her victory is like a sigh of relief.. for blacks and whites.

Contrary to the media’s belief, Barack Obama doesn’t have solid black support.

It’s either he’s not seen as a real black man, so why pay attention; a defeatist attitude, from jump, of, ‘He can’t win’; or plain dislike because he doesn’t speak about ‘black issues.’ It would take huge white support, like in Iowa or a win last night in New Hampshire, to have those people consider hopping on the ‘we’re gonna do it’ bandwagon.

But Barack Obama didn’t win, so now they don’t have to be uncomfortable either.

“Change.. Yes, we can!”

Everyone wants it, but they like easy even more.

Hillary Clinton has become the easy, safe vote.

I’m telling you, last night was a TKO.

*I’ll still vote for him in New York’s primary. That’s one vote!*

A lot of good points made. But I think that Obama still has a chance to make a strong showing in the upcoming primaries. Although Hillary won, it was still a very close margin. And Obama’s concession (?) speech last night was great! He really believes what he’s doing, cause why else put your self on the line like that when you know you already have a bunch of odds stacked against you? I think Hillary believes in her causes too, but Obama is able to connect with folks in a way that Hillary cannot.

On one of those shows CNN or CBS News after the Iowa caucuses, an older white man (50’s) and his son (20’s) from New Hampshire were talking about Obama. This white man said he admired Obama and that Obama was articulate and enthusiastic and had lit a fire under him (the white man) to vote. When whatever reporter it was asked him if he was going to vote for Obama—and I really thought that was an odd question to ask of someone who said such wonderful things about Obama—but he said NO he was going to vote for Edwards. The son was going to vote for Obama. So my LONG story is because in the booth in private people’s fears and personal biases are what they vote with. I think we all need to stop being so naive. America is one of the most racist countries on the planet. We can point to recent events of Katrina, Don Imus. The fact that Obama has gotten this far is a credit to him. But you all act like the current ass in the White House got their by merit and fairness. I am a realist and paranoid…I am a black woman in America…you don’t think that Super Tuesday is going to be a bunch of close-calls and bullshit. And, if Obama makes it to the general election in November they are going to do to him 100 x’s worst than what they did to Ford in Tennessee. Am I saying that Obama shouldn’t run or be the president? No I am not saying that. But we all need to pray for the brother because in the end that is probably all he may have to hold on to once this is over!
